2nd Ira Moana Workshop + Datathon
The ‘Ira Moana – Genes of the Sea – Project’ is a Catalyst Seeding funded initiative aiming to deliver a searchable database for the genetic and genomic data of our marine biodiversity. The database links DNA sequences (from all sequencing technologies) with sample information – such as sampling location, date of sampling event, and sample/data sovereignty – informing data re-use and creating opportunities for data synthesis.
This Workshop and Datathon will familiarise attendees with the Ira Moana Project, help participants contribute to and interact with the Ira Moana data resource, and foster collaboration and discussion regarding useful data products that could be created for end-users. Marine geneticists who create and manage genetic data, as well as marine scientists and managers with an interest in using or exploring genetic data, with relevance to local communities, measuring of biodiversity values, and science communication and education, are invited to attend!
